Power Breakfasts!
A big component of successfully having a diet become a lifestyle is consistency and ease; having to constantly think up new recipes to fit in with an eating plan can get exhausting. This routine-style of eating is one big reason why
so many trendy diets, like the slow carb movement, work so well. Have you ever noticed that when you have lots of options of food in front of you, you tend to eat more? That is exactly why having a few set breakfast ideas in your recipe arsenal can be a great way to start the morning off with a planned, healthy breakfast. We spoke to several nutritionists and personal trainers and created a list of easy (no more than 5 ingredients) and healthy breakfast ideas to start your day:
- Spinach, Mushroom, and Egg White Omelette: Simply throw together 3 egg whites, 1/2 cup chopped mushrooms, and 1 cup spinach into a pan greased with olive oil and grill
- Orange (not)cremsicle Smoothie: Blend 1/2 cup greek yogurt, 1 banana, 1/2 cup orange juice, 1/2 spoon honey, and 1 scoop of protein and/or green powder (optional)
- Muesli Parfait: In a bowl lay one layer of greek yogurt (or soy yogurt), add one layer of frozen berries, top with one layer of oats or your favorite no-oil granola and top with cinnamon and a splash of almond milk
- Tofu Scramble: Throw together 1 cup of chopped extra-firm tofu, 1/4 cup of nutritional yeast, your favorite spice blend (we like cumin, turmeric) into a pan greased with olive oil and grill. Top with shredded cheese (or vegan cheese substitute)
- Grilled Almond Butter Delight: In a panini press (or in the oven) place your favorite whole grain bread (if you can find a whole-grain challah bread, this is delicious!) layered with 2 spoons of almond butter and 2 spoons of your favorite all-natural fruit spread (we’re loving Serendipity Spreads’ Straightforward Strawberry Preserve) and grill until the bread is golden, or 5 minutes.
